Supporting Military Families

"We ask a lot of our military families, and each of us—no matter where we live—all of us should make our best efforts to show our military spouses, kids, siblings and parents how much we appreciate their service and their sacrifice."

Commitment to Supporting Military Families

Dr. Jill Biden, a military daughter and mother, used her White House platform to draw significant attention to the unique strengths and sacrifices of military families. She launched Joining Forces with First Lady Michelle Obama, a nationwide initiative that asked all Americans to use their skills and resources in support of our troops and their families.

Through Joining Forces, Dr. Biden focused on military spouse employment, working to connect military spouses with career opportunities. Dr. Biden has also led efforts to support military children: Operation Educate the Educators, in partnership with the Military Child Education Coalition and the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, directly engages educators to create learning environments that meet the needs of military families and children.

Dr. Biden understands firsthand how difficult it can be when a loved one is deployed overseas. Her children’s book, Don’t Forget, God Bless Our Troops, was released in June 2012. Inspired by real-life events, the book shows a year in the life of a military family’s experience with deployment — through the eyes of Natalie, Dr. Biden’s granddaughter.

Drawing upon Dr. Biden’s passion and example, the Biden Foundation will work to support military families, finding creative ways for Americans to stand beside and give back to those who serve and protect us. Each of us can do our part.
